Reducing Blind Spots, Saving Lives: The MaxxView Manufacturing Success Story
The MaxxView mirror system is an innovative multifunctional safety product designed for commercial trucking fleets. Combining a high-output backup light, hazard strobe, high-mounted turn signal, and integrated mirror that dramatically reduces blind spots, MaxxView was created to help prevent accidents, reduce insurance risk, and ultimately save lives.
But transforming an innovative concept into a durable, production-ready product capable of serving commercial fleets required much more than a good idea.
David Trytko, inventor and founder of MaxxView, faced significant legal, technical, engineering, and supply-chain challenges. To overcome them, he partnered with Precision Injection Molding’s team who became critical in helping turn MaxxView from an early prototype into a scalable, manufacturable safety system for the trucking industry.

FROM AN INSIGHT TO AN INNOVATION
The idea for MaxxView originated from a simple but important observation made by a truck driver. After installing chrome round backup lights, he noticed their reflective surfaces revealed vehicles hidden in his blind spot through his mirrors. That realization sparked the concept for a backup light with an integrated mirror to improve driver visibility during reversing maneuvers.
David developed early prototypes but quickly discovered that bringing the concept to market would require far more than basic molding expertise.
FINDING THE RIGHT MANUFACTURING PARTNER
David initially approached several molding companies in Vancouver, but most were unwilling to take on the complexity of the project. MaxxView was not simply a plastic part, it was a mechanically integrated safety system requiring robust engineering and manufacturing expertise.
Everything changed for David when he was introduced to Precision Injection Molding.
During the COVID pandemic, Paul Tontsch, Owner, Precision Injection Molding, personally visited David’s home to review the prototype. While the concept showed tremendous promise, Paul quickly identified durability and manufacturability issues that needed to be resolved before the product could be successfully scaled for commercial production.
SOLVING COMPLEX SUPPLY CHAIN CHALLENGES
One of the largest obstacles emerged after David assumed full control of the company from a former business partner. The chrome components were already being manufactured in China, but the tooling location and ownership situation had become unclear.
Leveraging its international manufacturing relationships and supply-chain expertise, PRECISION was able to locate the molds in China, negotiate their release, and transfer them to a trusted Chinese manufacturing partner.
This avoided the enormous cost and delay of recreating complex tooling from scratch and preserved years of prior investment.
ENGINEERING FOR REAL-WORLD PERFORMANCE
Although the original MaxxView concept was functional, it had not yet been engineered for reliable, high-volume production. Working closely together, David and PRECISION refined the design to improve strength, durability, and long-term field performance.
Two key engineering challenges required extensive Design for Manufacturability (DFM) expertise:
Gasket and Seal Integrity
The product required a precise seal around the light bulb assembly to ensure durability and environmental protection while maintaining proper fit and long-term reliability.
Dual Swivel System
MaxxView required two independently adjustable swivel mechanisms:
- A swivel behind the mirror.
- A larger swivel on the mounting bracket.
The system needed to remain adjustable while resisting loosening from vibration during daily trucking operations. Achieving the correct balance between adjustability, tension, and durability required multiple rounds of testing and refinement.
“Most people, you bring them a part and they say, ‘Okay, we’ll make that part.’ But this thing was far more complex and had issues, and PRECISION’s team was able to figure them out and make it work flawlessly,” said David Trytko.
RIGOROUS TESTING AND CONTINOUS REFINEMENT
From the beginning, both David and PRECISION’s team emphasized the need for extensive product testing and continuous improvement. Components were repeatedly evaluated, redesigned, and refined to ensure long-term reliability in demanding commercial environments. The development process took nearly two years from initial collaboration to first production parts.
David believed that inadequate testing leads to poor product performance and damaged market credibility. PRECISION helped translate that philosophy into engineering reality through careful material selection, tooling modifications, and manufacturability improvements.
OPTIMIZING MANUFACTURING AND SUPPLY CHAIN EFFICIENCY
PRECISION also helped improve the product’s performance and manufacturing economics.
Originally, MaxxView used a light bulb component sourced from another supplier in China. Although early samples were promising, PRECISION ultimately redeveloped the lighting component in-house to improve brightness, streamline production, and simplify the supply chain.
PRECISION’s global manufacturing network also helped reduce costs by optimizing production strategies and minimizing Value Added Tax (VAT) exposure in China. This lowered the overall landed cost per unit while improving operational efficiency.

THE FINISHED SAFETY PRODUCT
Today, MaxxView delivers multiple safety functions within a single integrated system:
- High-power backup light for improved rear visibility.
- Integrated mirror that significantly reduces blind spots.
- Hazard strobe light for dangerous or low-visibility situations.
- High-mounted turn signal positioned at eye level for truckers to increase visibility to surrounding drivers.
The system is particularly valuable for commercial trucking fleets where blind-spot incidents remain a persistent operational and safety concern.
PROVEN PERFORMANCE IN THE FIELD
To date, MaxxView has experienced zero product returns related to performance issues, validating the product’s durability and engineering quality.
The product has also gained industry attention, including being featured in a U.S. television safety segment broadcast across 130 news stations highlighting its blind-spot reduction capabilities.
Commercial traction continues to grow:
- A U.S. fleet customer has purchased more than 800 units.
- A Montreal-based safety products distributor with North American reach is onboarding the product.
For David, the mission is simple. He states, “Every truck should have this. It’s not a nice to have; it’s a need to have.”
WHY PRECISION INJECTION MOLDING WAS A CRITICAL PARTNER
Throughout the project, PRECISION provided value far beyond molding plastic components.
Willingness to Solve Complex Problems
Where others hesitated, PRECISION embraced the complexity:
- Supporting a mechanically integrated multi-component assembly.
- Resolving real-world usability and durability issues.
- Refining designs rather than simply building to print.
Deep Design for Manufacturability Expertise
PRECISION helped engineer MaxxView for long-term field performance by anticipating vibration, wear, alignment, and assembly challenges before production scaling began.
International Supply Chain Experience
PRECISION’s global manufacturing relationships helped:
- Recover and transfer lost tooling.
- Navigate international manufacturing complexities.
- Optimize logistics, tooling ownership, and cost structures.
End-to-End Manufacturing Support
Beyond tooling and molding, PRECISION also supported packaging, assembly documentation, and manufacturing coordination, helping transform MaxxView from a prototype into a market-ready commercial product.
“The team at PRECISION goes beyond what’s asked of them and delivers the highest quality in all that they do. I wouldn’t be here without their dedication and deep manufacturing expertise.” – David Trytko.
